What to Put on Your Home Page

Your home page gets a few seconds to do its job. Most home pages waste those seconds on a welcome message. Here is what belongs there instead.

Say what you do and where

The very top of the page should answer two questions. What do you do? Where do you do it? Family Dentist in Cheshire, CT does that in five words. Welcome to Our Website tells a visitor nothing at all.

Show why people pick you

Give three real reasons. Same day appointments. Twenty years in this town. Free estimates. Be specific about it. Great service is what every single competitor says, which is exactly why it means nothing to anyone.

Make the next step obvious

Put one clear button near the top. Call, book, or get a quote. Then repeat that same button further down the page. People who scroll all the way down are interested. Do not make them scroll back up to find you.

The takeaway

Say what you do and where, give three real reasons to pick you, and put one clear button where people can see it.
