Writing Website Copy That Sounds Like You

Most website writing sounds the same. Quality service. Great prices. Happy customers. Nobody ever picked a business because of those words. Here is how to write better ones.

Write the way you talk

The best words already exist. You use them every time you answer the phone. Record yourself explaining your work to a friend, then write that down. If a sentence would sound silly said out loud across a counter, cut it.

Start with their problem

We opened in 1987 is about you. Get your weekends back is about them. You get one headline to show that you understand their problem. Your company story is fine, but it belongs further down the page.

Be specific

Fast service means nothing, because everyone says it. A quote within one business day is a promise. Numbers, names, and places are what make people believe you. They are also what makes people remember you a week later.

The takeaway

Write like you talk. Lead with their problem. Then replace every vague claim with a specific one.
