What Are Keywords, and Why Do They Matter?

A keyword is just what someone types into Google. That is the whole idea. Choosing the right ones is how the right people end up on your website.

Use the words your customers use

You might call your work therapeutic bodywork. Your customer types massage near me. Write the words they use, not the words your industry uses. Listen to how people ask for your service when they call you on the phone. Those are your keywords.

Add your town

Plumber is a fight you cannot win. Plumber in Meriden CT is a fight you can win. Far fewer people search for it. But the people who do are close by and ready to call someone today. That trade is worth it every time.

One main idea per page

Do not pile every service onto one page. Give each service its own page. Give each page one main keyword. Google can only rank a page for what that page is clearly about. A page about everything ranks for nothing.

The takeaway

Use your customers own words, add your town, and give every service its own page.
